TheChickenYard's "Long Time Running" is the culmination of the an effort to find the sound that represents the individual. The sound that truly portrays the individuals as a group. The sound that defines the group as the music it produces. The sound that defines the music as a true compilation of experiences that are meant tell stories. Stories that are intended to move you or, maybe just your feet.
There are fun, foot stomping songs such as the title track "Long Time Running". There are songs of dramatic peaks and valleys such as "Stella". Songs with deep stories of personal experiences, such as "Not Here No More" and "She Takes It All". And there are songs that are just outright country-rock influenced, such as the ode to the sweet honeys of country, "Standby".

Musicians:
Nick Collins - Bass & Lead Vocals;
Josh Stansfield - Guitar & Backing Vocals;
Justin Ehrlich - Drums.

Combining Blues-Rock with a unique, southern twang style in their first full album “Much Obliged”, Nicky C and the RSB produce a raw yet smooth sound.
Nick Collins’ booming bass and soaring vocals create a comforting and bluesy feel, accompanied by the sound of Josh Stansfield’s soulful lead guitar, and Justin Ehrlich’s explosive drums. The band is diverging from the ideology of Blues-Rock purists, by creating a fresh alternative and noteworthy sound that is reminiscent of the Allman Brothers, The Black Crowes, and Kings of Leon.
Nick and Justin have been playing together in various bands since they first met at Towson University in 2004, and once Josh met the duo, the band Nicky C and the RSB has become unstoppable. This three-member band began close to the nation’s capital in Fairfax, VA, in December of 2012. The band released their first self-titled EP in June of 2013, paving the way for their first, full-length album, “Much Obliged”, released August 2014. Since their formation they have played at over 60 shows and festivals such as The Mad Tea Party Jam and Pink Moon.
Nicky C and the RSB have shared the stage with headlining artists like Papadosio, The Werks, Dopapod, Tauk, PBR, Pidgeons Playing Ping Pong, Turkuaz and ELM. They also directly supported fellow artists like Jimkata, Spiritual Rez, The Heavy Pets, American Babies, Stokeswood, The Shack Band and Moogatu.
"For those of you who enjoy good ole gritty Southern Rock, Nicky C is definitely for you. Do you enjoy the Drive by Truckers, the Black Crowes, the Allman Brothers ? (I hope everyone answers yes to all of these). In all sincerity, this is some great work from a strong power trio, a new band seeking to make its mark on the local music scene. This track exudes their rising and growing talent on the scene. It Takes A Woman comes off their forthcoming album, Much Obliged, which was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Kenny Eaton at Mystery Ton Studios." - Andrew McConnell, Live Music Daily

"Combining sunny southern rock jams with slithery delta blues licks, Nicky C and the RSB have garnered comparisons to classic acts like the Allman Brothers and modern superstars such as the Black Keys.” - The Bayou DC

Blues is about the "only" pure music beyond a passion just at the present time. Here About the band members of Cheap Tequila agree since they make music. Cheap Tequila was founded by guitarist Matthias Schaaf in September 1979th For the band name a title of Blues guitarist Johnny Winter was the inspiration. If feelings are to be expressed in music, blues in all its facets today continues to be the most appropriate music style. As different as their music preferences are in the past and present as well, it is clear that love of the blues the foundation of their musical work and their friendship.
When the musical idols and colleagues then regarded as today, the Cheap tequilas are with this attitude, God knows not alone. For over 30 years the Dortmund lineup provides the scene with a straight blues, coming out of the stomach and goes into the legs.
With a groovy shuffle, vibrant blues and funky rock and roll show, the five musicians that the rhythmic groove with the members can be more fun than the cramped ponging on a remote control.

"Doing Christmas jingles in August when sweat is rolling down your neck can be challenging, but after eight years of pulling music together, we finally came up with something that we hope speaks to the word 'classic', and something my audience can pull out every year and feel the music with a current type of sensibility. This is definitely one of my favorite projects recorded." - Bob Baldwin

 7. Never Knew Love Like This Before - 6:31
 8. Sleepwalk - 4:18
 9. When Will I See You Again - 4:44
10. Here, There And Everywhere - 2:47

Arguably the most globally recognized of any (and I mean any) smooth jazz artist, guitarist Peter White will release his latest album, ‘Groovin’, on October 28 via Heads Up, a division of Concord Music Group. Despite it being White’s third collection of hugely personal interpretations of timeless hits, if his previous efforts (‘Reflections’ in 1994 and ‘Playin' Favorites’ that followed twelve years later) are anything to go by then ‘Groovin’ seems all set to be the contemporary jazz event of 2016 bar none. Like many of us who, in the UK, were teenagers in the sixties, White remained locked onto tiny transistor radios soaking up the exciting new sounds of bands such as the Beatles and emerging soul giants like Stevie Wonder, The Temptations and the Four Tops.
It is this music that provides the foundation for ‘Groovin’ while the first single to be released to radio this coming week will be ‘Do I Do’, the Stevie Wonder blockbuster that first saw the light of day in 1982 on Wonder’s highly acclaimed 'Stevie Wonder's Original Musiquarium'.

Two Bars From The Gun got its start under the pen of a Florida boy holed up in a Pennsylvania winter. Wes Gow weathered the elements and unemployment with generous doses of Springsteen and Petty, and in the process discovered a love for telecasters and tweed-lacquered amps. After the spring thaw, Wes relocated his wife (and his songs) to Virginia Beach, where he made quick friends with bassist Rev Guill and drummer Heath Oderman. The three began rehearsing, writing, playing local shows, and collectively navigating the ever-changing tides of growing families and career moves in suburban America, never losing sight of their musical identity. In 2013, the trio limped into the studio, tired from a fews years of the local scene and not altogether certain what the future held. For the next year the band focused all their available energy on the album. Under the friendship and guidance of Jon Anderson at Whale Head Records, Two Bars From The Gun is proud to emerge with "Thief & Love," their first full length album!

16. I Think Of Her - 1:50

Another one of this summer’s most anticipated power pop releases, Seth Swirsky’s Circles and Squares combines superb songwriting with all the right influences to create the ideal summer fare for the power pop fanatic.
You can hear the Beach Boys influence in “Shine”, the disc’s opening song. Swirsky channels Nilsson for the title track and McCartney influences are apparent throughout the entirety of the record. Bacharach, too. Yet none of it sounds derivative as Circles and Squares melds together each of these influences to create what is in essence a master class in songwriting. As if that weren’t enough, Swirsky plays just about every instrument on the record. The highlights are numerous including the piano driven “Far Away” with its McCartney-esque vibe, the ultra catchy “Trying to Keep It Simple”, the jangle pop of “Table”, the irresistible start to finish hook called “Old Letter” and “I Don’t Have Anything At All (If I Don’t Have You) with its list of Swirsky’s most valued collectibles, none of which mean anything (if I don’t have you). Some baseballs that are pretty rare…gold records hanging on my wall…Atlas Shrugged in a first printing.

Shaun Harris (born March 2, 1946) is an American musician best-remembered as the bassist of the psychedelic rock band the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band (WCPAEB). Throughout his music career, Harris worked closely with Michael Lloyd on projects outside the WCPAEB including the Rogues, California Spectrum, and Brigadune. In 1973, he recorded a self-titled solo album on Capitol Records.
Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Harris is the eldest son of symphonic composer Roy Harris. In 1962, the family moved to Los Angeles, where a year later Shaun Harris, along with his younger brother Danny, began performing in the Kim Fowley-produced surf rock band the Snowmen.[1] In 1964, the group released the "Ski Storm" single on Challenge Records. While attending the Hollywood Professional School, the Harris brothers befriended Michael Lloyd, the leader of the rival band the Rouges. Shortly afterwards, Shaun Harris assumed the role of bass guitarist with the Rouges, and recorded the single "Wanted: Dead or Alive" for Fowley's own Living Legend record label in 1965.Another project, known as the Laughing Wind, recorded the single, "Good to Be Around" in the same year.
With Roy Harris's financial backing, the Harris brothers and Lloyd recorded demos, which would later appear on the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band's debut album Volume One in 1966. Released on the small FiFo label, Volume One was made possible thanks to Bob Markley, a former scholar of law attempting to gain fame on the Sunset Strip with the group under his command. Shaun Harris is the only band member, other than Markley, to appear on every album recorded by the WCPAEB, including the final effort credited to "Markley A Group" in 1970. Between 1967 and 1968, while the group was on hiatus, Harris and Lloyd formed the side-project, California Spectrum, which performed live and released two singles "Sassafras" and "She May Call You Up Tonight" in early 1968. Following the distribution of Markley A Group, the WCPAEB disbanded.
A year after the band's demise, Harris recorded the solo single "I'll Cry Out from My Grave (God I'm Sorry)", a rare sunshine pop record produced by Lloyd and released under the alias Brigadune. In 1973, Harris signed with Capitol Records issuing a self-titled album which boasted a country rock sound unheard of in any of his earlier work. Recorded with top session musicians from the Wrecking Crew, Beach Boy Bruce Johnston, and Lloyd, Shaun Harris was nonetheless hindered by sharing the same release date as Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.[8][9] In the 1990s, the album acquired a cult following, particular among WCPAEB fans, and was reissued on Rev-Ola Records in 2005 with the mono version of "I'll Cry Out from My Grave (God I'm Sorry)". Music critic Jason Ankeny described Shaun Harris as mainstream pop far departing from Harris's stint with the WCPAEB, but also noted its "melodies and arrangements are atypically complex and its lyrics are profoundly introspective, exploring themes of melancholy, self-doubt, and even suicide with uncommon candor". The poor sales of the album prompted Capitol Records to cut Harris from their roster. He reunited with Lloyd and his brother for smaller projects including Grand Concourse and Rockit, and also served as president of Barry Manilow's publishing company before retiring from music in 2004. Harris has since been living in Oregon to write a play about his life.

Cindy Bullens exhibited an unfortunate talent for hooking up with record companies that were on the way out, starting with United Artists and continuing with the classic '70s boom-and-bust label, Casablanca, a year later. Which is to say that Bullens's second album, Steal the Night, got lost at the end of 1979. Though not quite as impressive as her debut, it was another record full of high-energy guitar-based pop-rock, some of which, given the time of release, could have passed for new wave or power-pop; however, Bullens was a mainstream rocker at heart, and her main points of reference were the early-'60s girl groups and the British Invasion. Here was a performer who had a good, punchy voice, played guitar as well as anybody, and wrote serviceable pop songs with hooks; it's a shame she didn't make it.

12. T Bone Speaks - 1:03
13. Tell Me What's The Reason - 2:49

These songs are a collection of Texas Blues tunes that emphasize the deep-rooted ties between Rhode Island and Texas blues musicians for more than 4 decades.
Texas Rhody Blues, featuring Jimmie Vaughan and Duke Robillard, is the third Knickerbocker All-Stars CD release. The project was supported by the Knickerbocker Music Center, a non-profit organization formed in partnership with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School. The Knickerbocker Music Center will have an exciting performance venue and an exceptional center for music education.
This CD has its roots in The Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals of the late 1950s and early ‘60s which turned many white soul searchers on to blues, rhythm and blues, and jump blues. In 1963, Blues at Newport was recorded live at the Newport Folk Festival, which featured many of the greatest folk and delta blues musicians. A young woman attending college in Boston heard it and was hooked. Her name is Bonnie Raitt. The next Newport Folk Festival brought in two of the most influential Texas bluesmen: Lightnin’ Hopkins and Mance Lipscomb.
The talented guitarist, Mike Bloomfield who deserves much more recognition for pioneering blues music, offered blues workshops at the festival with Lipscomb and Hopkins. Bloomfield performed with Paul Butterfield and made rock ‘n’ roll history when he handed Bob Dylan a Fender Stratocaster and Dylan played three “electrified” songs with Sam Lay, Barry Goldberg and Al Kooper.
A young Rhode Island blues aficionado also was hooked. His name is Duke Robillard. The Texas/Rhody blues connection was further developed when Rhode Islander Johnny Nicholas joined Asleep at the Wheel as vocalist and won a Grammy in 1978. At the time, Roomful of Blues, the Fabulous Thunderbirds and the Cobras – Stevie Ray Vaughan’s band – were the hottest acts to play in Austin and Westerly, RI. Rhode Islander Fran Christina, the original Roomful drummer, joined the Thunderbirds followed by Roomful’s bass player, the late Preston Hubbard. When Jimmie Vaughan left the Thunderbirds, Robillard took over on guitar for three years.
The climax of the Texas/Rhody Connection came when Stevie Ray played with the Roomful Horns at Carnegie Hall in 1997.
Texas Rhody Blues is a celebration of the great Texas Bluesmen and the generation of tremendous blues musicians who followed, of which there are too many to list. There is no question that Jimmie Vaughan and Duke Robillard should be hall of famers and the bookends of the Texas/Rhody blues connection. Please play this recording loud!– JP Sheerar

In 1996, LeAnn Rimes burst out of nowhere with her debut single "Blue," which immediately captured the attention of country fans across America. It wasn't just the fact that her rich, powerful vocals were remarkably similar to Patsy Cline's -- it was the fact that Rimes was only 13 years old. Like Tanya Tucker and Brenda Lee before her, she had a hit with her debut single and was barely a teenager at the time. It was quite an auspicious way to begin a career. Born in Jackson, Mississippi, but raised in Garland, Texas, Rimes (born August 28, 1982) began singing as a child, performing at local talent contests. At the age of 11, she released her first album on an independent record label called Nor Va Jak. That same year, Bill Mack, a Dallas disc jockey and record promoter, met Rimes, and impressed by her talents, he took her under his wing and began cultivating a plan to break her into the mainstream. The cornerstone of Mack's plan was a song called "Blue," which he had written in the '60s. Mack claimed that he had written the tune for Cline, but she had died before she was able to record the song. Throughout 1995, Rimes' career continued to gain momentum, as she performed more than 100 concerts and appeared on television shows across Texas. After Mack arranged a recording contract for Rimes with Curb Records, the label sent out a release with the single of "Blue" that claimed the DJ had been waiting over 30 years to find the right vocalist to sing it. The story was an exaggeration: "Blue" had been recorded by no less than three different artists, including Bill Mack and Kenny Roberts, who both released versions on Starday in the '60s, and in 1993, Kathryn Pitt released the record as a single in her native Australia. Nevertheless, the story was repeated throughout the country and mainstream music press, adding to the growing myth that Rimes was the successor to Cline's tradition. "Blue" and its accompanying album of the same name became major hits in the summer of 1996. Blue debuted at number three on the pop charts, selling over 123,000 copies within its first week of release -- the largest figure to date in the history of the SoundScan tracking system. Rimes was nominated for the Country Music Association Horizon award and the CMA Best Country Singer, becoming the youngest singer in the history of the CMA awards to receive a nomination; she won neither award. After two quickie 1997 releases -- Unchained Melody: The Early Years and You Light Up My Life: Inspirational Songs -- she issued her second proper LP, Sittin' on Top of the World, in 1998. Her self-titled third album followed a year later and I Need You appeared in early 2001. The next year, Rimes emerged with a sexy flair for the pop-oriented Twisted Angel, but returned to contemporary country in 2005 with This Woman. Her 2006 effort, Whatever We Wanna, found her going back to pop and was released exclusively in Europe. In 2007, she kicked off the Evan Almighty soundtrack with the gospel rave-up "Ready for a Miracle," appeared on Hal Ketchum's single "In Front of the Alamo," and began promoting her next album, Family, with the single "Nothing Better to Do." Rimes spent 2008 on tour with Kenny Chesney, then returned in 2011 with the Vince Gill- and Darrell Brown-produced Lady & Gentlemen, a collection of classic country tunes reinterpreted from a female perspective. Over the next few years, Rimes continued to work on Spitfire, the album that would conclude her contract with Curb. It was originally promised for 2012 but was pushed back to 2013, eventually surfacing on digital services in May and then released physically in June. Spitfire debuted (and peaked) at 36 on the Billboard charts and spawned no hits. In 2014, she announced that she would release a series of seasonal holiday EPs over the next three years, beginning with 2014's One Christmas. Within a year, the holiday EP project turned into a standard full-length holiday LP, with Today Is Christmas appearing in the fall of 2015. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

12. Slow Burn - 4:22

Al Lerman knows how to make a blues album that not only will appeal to blues lovers, but certainly to new fans of the 'devil's music'.... a strong, weathered voice and superb harp work make 'Slow Burn' an album not to be overlooked.
Al Lerman is besides a solo blues artist, also guitarists of the Canadian blues outfit Fathead and a well asked sidekick /studio guitarist. His career spans over forty plus years or so and in those years he has seen and worked a lot. Enough to come-up wiht a solo album once in a while.  Slowburn is the third solo album by Lerman and again it’s an album that brings together the many different faces of the blues. Bad Luck Blues is a bit Latin edged, while leading track Don’t Push Your Mess on Me is more or less gospel inspired. On I fit takes me all night long, Lerman is tackling aging with some dark humour. Gonna Have To Wait is without doubt the track that will surface on most radio stations as this one definitely comes with a lot of airplay vibes. But don’t be mistaken; tunes like Now That Your Man is gone, Anyway You want and Totally Out Of Wack might not be promoted as much as the other tunes but these are truly the tunes that define the blues on this album. Kokomo, the only rendition on this album truly rocks the time away until it’s time to say goodbye though the title and closing track, Slow Burn.
Al Lerman proves once again that he is a gifted career and blues musician who won already two Juno awards (with Fathead) and is making a name of his self through his solo recordings as well.
Check it out you are a fan of Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee or Paul Butterfield.

The Solomon Cole Band might be from Waiheke Island, but they sound like a very fine American southern rock act on this debut release. Derek Solomon is the vocalist/guitarist, ably abetted by bass player Lee Catlin, powerhouse singer Sophia Faalogo and drummer Dione Denize. The lyrics are pure rock and roll – alluding to all the usual sexual shenanigans contained therein, without being crude or cliche. Clearly a live band, they sound like more than a four-piece and there’s plenty of soul on show. Raw and evidently talented, let them Ring Your Bell.

Peach & the Almost Blues Band - A Night in Copenhagen

 7. Same As I'm Over You - 5:09
 8. Ain't Got No Money - 3:31

February in Copenhagen is usually a very cold place to be. Fortunately, for one night, American blues artist Peach Reasoner rolled into town with the Almost Blues Band and set up in the Café Bartof, a very cool place with a great reputation for good music and good beer. Peach has played here many times before and you can tell throughout the live album she recorded here, A NIGHT IN COPENHAGEN, that she and the band feel right at home.
From the warm opening of recently named Nobel Laureate Bob Dylan’s beautiful ballad, Tonight I’ll Be Stayin Here With You, with its simple piano and harp lines (both provided by Ken Stange) backing Peach’s gorgeous vocals. It’s a bold choice for someone in a distant city giving herself over to the audience for the night. It announces her intentions and shows that she is very much in command of the evening.
The applause is warm and enthusiastic and you can tell that Peach is home – or at least in a welcoming place that feels very much like home.
She follows up with a piece of slice of barrelhouse with Never Make Your Move Too Soon. Again, Stange’s keys play a significant role in the song, and as he has worked with Peach before, that seems appropriate. Her guitar work (primarily lead) is very assured and sets off the piano very nicely.
Aside from Reasoner and Stange, her band for the album consists of Michael Engman Rønnow on guitar and backing vocals; Helge Solberg of bass and backing vocals’ and Niclas Campagnol on drums.  I’m unsure as to how long this group has worked with Reasoner, but they sound like they have been together for some time. Their harmonies are tight and they obviously have fun playing.
Next up is the Mel London tune, Little By Little, and they give it a good ride. Peach is saucy with her delivery, a little tease and a lot of sass. It’s a fun song. Listen for her to blister the guitar break. She follows up with a rocking version of Love-Itis. It’s a good combination and gives the group an opportunity to let their hair down.
She follows up with a song that she wrote, Tell Me You Love Me. It’s a tender love song – one of the longest songs on the album. Reasoner pours her heart and soul into this track, her vocals echo past pain beautifully. She’s a good songwriter and I would be very interested in finding more that she has written.
I confess that I was not that familiar with her work prior to A Night In Copenhagen, but I have enjoyed this album very much. I’ll be searching her website, http://www.peachmusic.com/live/ looking for more information about her tours and seeing if I can find other albums. She’s a multitalented performer and I look forward to sharing her music with listeners of Time For The Blues.
She gets back to rocking with Come Up And See Me Sometime and the band has really hit their groove. By now she is fearless and the crowd is loving every minute of her show. She and Stange play off of each other nicely and her vocals take on that assertive tone that just makes a blues song smoke.
She takes command with the smoldering Same As I’m Over You. It’s a gorgeous late night smoky room number that a good blues fan will savor. Stange’s keys are delicious and it sounds like Campagnol has switched to brushes for part of the song, giving it that jazzy flavor and in your mind’s eye you can almost see Peach working the crowd while she sings. A great way to start to wind up the album.
Yes, there’s only one more song left, the rocking number, Ain’t Got No Money. While this song could easily open any show and get it off to a rousing start, Peach and company have decided to end with it, sending the audience off on a very high note.
There’s an old adage in show business to always leave your audience wanting more. Peach Reasoner and the Almost Blue Band certainly did that. This fast album (eight songs in 36 minutes) serves to whet our appetite for more. A Night In Copenhagen is one of those beautiful surprises that just about every blues fan will love receiving.

The   Fluoride   Program's  first full-length release builds upon the promise that their 2005 EP Bastion hinted at. The group whispers and screams with a bright tunefulness and a sense of dynamic that is in rare supply in most of their post-rock contemporaries. Ever since Radiohead apparently decided that guitars were old hat, many indie rockers have relied on twiddling electronics to build the walls of their sonic architecture, but on  Roadside   Flowers ,  the   Fluoride   Program  injects piano, layers of harmony vocals, and even the occasional viola into the scree and wail of guitars and rolling hi-hat to build a textural feel without the overused drone of synthesized sound. This is a real band, playing in time with each other, and pushing sound around a real room. The totemic pulse of the album's highlight, "Lucus," puts drummer Steve Bekkala and guitarist Justin King (doing a startling Jonny Greenwood impression, whether he knows it or not) into a locked-horns battle of percussion and distorted strings. The song only reaches climactic conclusion when the tolling bell of Steve Motrinc's bass ushers in Dmitri Vada's impassioned vocals, acting as a divine referee and bringing unification to the song's cinematic conclusion. The abrupt thunderclap that ends "Designs" after a collision of soundscape gives way to another screenplay, this time evoking "The Great Gig in the Sky" as interpreted by the Velvet Teen on "All Is Still in Working Order." The album peaks in the ten-minute epic "Cowards," which reaches levels of prog indulgence -- shifting time signatures and tempos, offering bright noodling guitar lines in the beginning, only to be obliterated by a stomping factory of unexpected dissonant guitar and Emotional Rescue-era back-alley funk.  Roadside   Flowers  is quietly put to bed with the simple "Sundial," a molasses-slow makeout session of Stax soul instrumentation and summertime AM pop. "Quietly we've become older than we care to admit/At sundown we'll meet again." This entire album takes more turns than a game of Othello between two seven year olds, and is equally full of unexpected surprises: just when the whole thing starts to make sense, the colors all flip and the game begins anew.

She’s at it again. Not content with stripping the bones and sinews of Jacques Brel, Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley, the ‘Silent Witness’ of the cabaret circuit Barb Jungr now forensically dissects and reconstructs the Beatles.
It has become a cliché to say that ‘she makes you hear songs as though for the first time’, but she bloody does and by removing the 60s poppy detritus from the arrangements manages to make Lennon sound like a poet and McCartney an accomplished composer.
She’s such an understated diva. Casual silky but not sparkly top, elegant but sensible trousers and shoes, and eyeballing the audience like a headmistress quelling a talkative assembly. You take in the restrained jewellery, the confidential stare, the freshly blonded page-boy bob, then it’s as if Theresa May suddenly turned out to be a groover as she snaps into the strutting rhythm of ‘Got To Get You Into My Life’.
By not introducing the numbers she teases the room, in torch, jazz or blues renditions few recognised the verses to half the songs and she surprised even when one started with its title: ‘Eleanor Rigby’ became a three-act folk drama, a stretched-out pain-soaked salute to loneliness and regret.
The first half features mostly love songs – a delicious mash of ‘And I Love Her’ ‘All My Loving’ and ‘All You Need is Love’ ramp up to a more urgent and tensile ‘Getting Better’, with its darker references to Lennon’s pre-peacenik past “I used to be cruel to my woman/I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved/Man I was mean but I’m changing my scene/And I’m doing the best that I can”.
As usual, the anecdotes are personal and confessional. Jungr hates it when critics mention age in reviews, and I promised her I wouldn’t. So let’s just say that women who now reach for the gold-coloured L’Oreal boxes on the moisturizer shelf in the supermarket, would as teenagers all have had a favourite Beatle.
Jungr had always dismissed Paul as too bland, but discovering he’d missed an important meeting at which the accreditation of songs was permanently determined as ‘Lennon/McCartney’ whoever penned them, and realizing he’d carried the fire of resentment in his belly for fifty years since he wrote so many more than John – she felt that if this were more widely known that when Heather Mills limped out of his life, he’d have been inundated with offers, including her own.
She also has wonderfully acerbic things to say about Yoko Ono, although she doesn’t (yet) quote Radio 1 DJ Andy Peebles who this week described her as ‘the woman who did for music what Wayne Sleep did for Rugby League’.
New York musical director and arranger John McDaniel is a tremendous accompanist, and gets a couple of good songs to himself including the hardest stuff: a beautifully-crafted ‘When My Guitar Gently Weeps’ without a guitar.  The show works well with his fine piano, you might ponder whether some brass or strings would support them even more – but when Jungr wields her harmonica and bends it like a tenor sax, I wouldn’t really have it any other way.

James VINCENT is just one of many excellent musicians from Chicago area. As a guitarist he changed through a lot of styles, and through his career was not just a solo artist but a studio musician, writer and composer.
One of his first more known bands in blues ridden Chicago were THE EXCEPTIONS in which he worked with Pete CETERA who would become lead singer of CHICAGO. After working as a studio musician for many Chess Records recording artists, VINCENT became a guitarist for the proto-prog band H.P.LOVECRAFT. Then he met Howard WALES & Jerry GARCIA with whom he toured for a brief time. While touring and playing the blues/funk influenced fusion at the time, VINCENT became inspired with their opening band and their guitarist, which was John MCLAUGHLIN and MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA.
Afterwards he began recording and released four albums up to 1980 before taking a longer break with his solo career. His earlier records can be reminiscent of for example SANTANA with whom he used to work with and his RnB roots show in a lot of his work but amongst those there is fine energetic instrumental jazz fusion.

The album comes just two years after the 74-year-old singer/guitarist released Croz.
He tells Wall Street Journal: "It's a very fruitful time. I don’t know how to explain this, but, most people my age have petered out. They don’t have a writing surge.
"My writing always comes in bursts, but for the last couple years, I’ve had this inexplicable surge. Probably the densest and longest surge I’ve had, which at this stage in the game is a miracle.
"I can’t explain why that would happen except that I’m happy. I’m a very happy guy. That may be the key to the whole deal."

The Merchants of Midnight formed in 2014 when members Royce Saindon and Matt Hower made the decision to follow their passion for music.  In the beginning, their music was solely guitar and vocals.  The band later added drums and bass.  Together they self-recorded a demo album known as Little Devil Inside which hit the local music scene in 2015. The Merchants continued playing shows throughout 2015 and early 2016 as Matt and Royce wrote their second album--Line 'Em Up.  As many bands do, the Merchants made some transitions with their members when their bass player moved on due to lack of time to focus on a professional record.  In 2016, talented drummer CJ Smith joined up, and the three musicians followed through with their plans for a studio record. The talented trio describe their music as rock and roll with attitude.  Their lyrics are diverse as is their sound--ranging from up-tempo twisty ballads like "Lady Luck" to soul-soaked, and deeply thoughtful songs like "The Grey". The Merchants took several months off from gigs this summer to focus solely on their studio-recorded album.  The album comes with ten new visereal beats and is set to debut mid-October, 2016.

Brother-sister duo Chad & Morgan D. Carson grew up playing and writing American music. They still play and write American music. It is 2015 in America.
Hoping that people would want new music in the 20-teens, they formed The Kid Carsons in 2012 to realign the fabric of space-time with their vision of folk expression. As of yet, they have been unable to articulate a text message with all the shade and sentiment of a tear-stained letter, but The Kid Carsons’ sound is one to resonate with the 21st century heart.
Chad and Morgan are joined by lifetime friend and musical accomplice David Hart on keys and banjo, and together, they plan to make as many records as possible. Along with pedal steel heartthrob Derek Duplessie, and David Shirley on drums they're working on their 1st LP, and riding around a lot in a van.
When they get out of the van, they perform with people like W.B. Givens, Sons of Bill, Toy Soldiers, Shovels & Rope, Jonny Fritz, Banditos, Andrew Combs, Juston Stens and the Get Real Gang, The Steep Canyon Rangers, The Little Country Giants, Jordan Hull, The Wheeler Brothers, & Cale Tyson. The Kid Carsons live in New Orleans. The van’s name is Evangeline.

UK band NTH ASCENSION was formed in 2009, originally using the moniker Nth Degree, and solidified as a band unit in 2010. An initial demo was released in 2011, and in 2014 they signed to UK label Sonic Vista for the release of their official debut album “Ascension of Kings”. In 2016 they left their former label to sign up for US label Melodic Revolution Records, who released their sophomore production “In Fine Initium”.
Nth Ascension is very much an English band, exploring landscapes and sounds that were invented and developed on the British Isles. Melodic, powerful progressive rock is the name of the game here, and then by and large explored inside a neo progressive general context. Their take on the genre is one that relies heavily on alternating, contrasting arrangements and a striking lead vocalist further enhancing the dramatic aspects of the compositions. It’s also a take on this style that has something of a steely edge to it at times, unlike the more pop/rock oriented artists you’ll also encounter inside this general sphere of reference. For some distinct similarities, I suspect the sound explored by later day Pendragon is a fairly good comparison.
Majestic, powerful passages sporting firm guitar riffs and one or more layers of keyboards is the staple for the harder edged passages in these compositions, at times in arrangements with stronger similarities to AOR style hard rock, at other times, especially when the keyboard is less prominent, comparisons can be made toward Canadian powerhouse trio Rush as well. And on a few occasions the sheer intensity of those more powerful passages close in on the gentler side of classic progressive metal if not in scope then at least in a sound that is rich, powerful and striking. Offsetting these riff and keyboards powered sections are sequences of a more delicate nature, where plucked careful guitars, wandering piano motifs, crying style guitar solo runs and keyboard textures of a more ethereal character all have their place.
The combination of these two types of at times starkly contrasting themes and arrangements works really well, and the contrast aspect is explored in an effective and striking manner throughout this album. The subtly theatrical, dramatic lead vocals of Alan Taylor is a good fit for these compositions, and his vocal style and delivery does add something of a rock opera spirit to some of these cuts, giving rise to associations towards some of Clive Nolan’s exploits in that specific department.
The aforementioned lead vocals may be something of a divisive aspect of this album however, as this may be just a bit too melodramatic for some, and the mix and production also gives this production a slightly closed in sound that may not be universally appealing. But besides those who know they have sensitive tastes in those departments, “In Fine Initium” comes across as a strong and accomplished production by this still relatively new band, and I suspect that those who know and love later day Pendragon and Clive Nolan’s rock opera projects should be the crowd that finds this CD to be most satisfying.

Gary Versace is “one of the most exciting yet sensitive performers on the Hammond B3 to emerge in recent years.” (Mark Gardner) His SteepleChase leadership debut album “Time And Again” SCCD 31572 drew attention of critic John Kelman of All About Jazz who commented, “…Time And Again is a strong debut, but Versace is capable of much more – a fact that will no doubt be revealed in good time.” No doubt indeed, here on this his second CD you will find an artist with a most original conception offering fascinating musical experiences.
Since basing himself in NYC in 2002, originally hailing from Cos Cob, CT, jazz pianist, organist and accordionist Gary Versace has become one of the busiest and most versatile musicians on the scene, often featured in bands led by musicians such as John Scofield, John Abercrombie, Al Foster, Regina Carter, Maria Schneider, Madeleine Peyroux, Matt Wilson, Joe Magnarelli, Andy LaVerne, Adam Nussbaum, Brad Shepik, Ingrid Jensen and many others.
Recent CD releases include appearances as pianist on Ralph Alessi's 'Quiver" (ECM records) which received 4.5 stars in Downbeat, as accordionist on Maria Schneider's Grammy-winning 'The Thompson Fields,' as Hammond organist on Ellery Eskelin's 'Trio Willisau: Live' and Rich Perry's 'Organique,' and on all three instruments on Kurt Elling's 'Passion World.'
Versace won the "Rising Star' category on the Hammond organ in Downbeat's Critic's Poll in 2009 and 2010, and has placed in the primary Organ category consistently for the last 5 years. He won the Jazz Jounalists' Association's "Best Organist" award in 2012, and his work has been reviewed and featured in many national and international publications. He appeared twice as a guest on Marian McPartland's acclaimed NPR show 'Piano Jazz,' and McPartland has described him as '...endlessly inventive...(Versace) really has an extraordinary talent.'
He has several CD's under his own name on the SteepleChase and Criss Cross labels, and has appeared as a guest on almost 75 more.
Gary Versace has a masters degree in music performance from the Eastman School of Music, and spent eight years as a tenured associate professor in the jazz studies department at the University of Oregon. He remains active as a clinician and guest soloist both nationally and around the world.

Shine Eye Dee & The Bad Fish - Shine Eye Dee & The Bad Fish

Time: 39:24
Size: 92,0 MB
Label: Self Released
Styles: Blues/Blues Rock
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Ride - 3:00
 2. Problem Child - 6:25
 3. Lights in the Sky - 3:28
 4. Pretty Baby - 3:33
 5. Midnight Hoochie Coo - 4:00
 6. Flotsam and Jetsam - 4:35
 7. Lonely Highway - 4:38
 8. Hey Boy - 3:23
 9. Cheatin' Blues - 6:18

I have no hesitation in nominating this album as one the most outstanding blues/rock albums of 2015. Manchester based studio producer and musician Geoff Rees is the creative driving force behind the music and manages to make every track a winner, there simply isn’t an inferior track amongst this excellent collection of songs. The icing on the cake surely has to be the superb vocal talents of Shine-Eye Dee who has a sultry but powerful and distinctive vocal presence on all the tracks. Her vocals are perfect for this music and she pitches her voice with pure emotion and precise tonal quality into each song, the hallmark of a true vocal artist.
“Ride” opens the album with a truck stop boogie 'power glider' and takes the listener into the badlands of Arizona & New Mexico which sets the scene for things to come with the following track “Outlaw Man” telling story of an old western gun fighter on the run, perhaps an ode to Wild Bill Longley with Shine-Eye Dee slowly tightening the noose on the song before the outlaw finally mounts the gallows to meet his maker. “Problem Child” is defined by Geoff’s low down mean & dirty blues riff which sucks the listener into the age old tale of forlorn and doomed infatuation with a feel and sound production reminiscent of the Alannah Myles classic “Black Velvet”.
“Pretty Baby” is in my opinion the “single” on this album with a totally hypnotic rock guitar riff that nails it to the mast from the very first note with a killer middle eight bridge section and vocals to die for from Shine-Eye Dee, this song has total instant appeal.
“Perfect Circumstance” has a flow all of its own and is an inspired mid tempo bitter sweet country rock song which touches the listener with positive sentiment raising the spirit whilst exposing an almost fatalistic flaw within the ideal of the songs theme and title. “Midnight Hoochie Coo” is an 'out and out' good time rocker with a great mix of guitar and piano with a powerful gutsy vocal delivery, a real foot stomper. “Cheatin’ Blues” is an earthy slow burner in a similar vein to “Trouble” the Leiber & Stoller classic recorded by Elvis. The song “You Are” finds Shine-Eye Dee vocalizing on this laid back track in a higher register pitch with strong Southern Rock overtones augmented with some very atmospheric guitar playing by Geoff Rees.
The ace up the sleeve here is “Flotsam & Jetsam” which is the real ‘chill factor ten’ song on this album as it touches the inner sanctum of the soul with the sadness of loss and a life unfulfilled, backed by just piano & violin Shine-Eye Dee’s haunting and melancholic voice brings the listener to their knees as broken dreams and memories come flooding back to haunt us. Stone statues will lie weeping in the wake of this song, pure genius!
“Lonely Highway” is a Freeway fast lane rocker that puts you back in the driving seat but I would be more than happy to travel down this highway with Shine-Eye Dee & The Bad Fish which I do every time I hear this album, after all isn’t that what good music is supposed to do, transport the listener. It’s all here in one album, great songs delivered with real emotion, hats off to Shine-Eye Dee & The Bad Fish. It just doesn’t get any better than this! ~Lucas Campbell
